Once upon a time, I had like a bazillion guitars. Shall we go through the seasons?
February 2006
Big Baby Taylor - my first acoustic. Solid spruce top, laminated sides & back. 15/16th the size of a regular dreadnaught, but still carries the Taylor tone. I think I xanga'ed about it years ago, about how I couldn't put it down for hours and absolutely loved the sound (and I still do!). In this shot, it's been tagged by some scruffy-looking men from a band called Third Day. Vandalism at its worst - and on a Taylor of all guitars!!!
Tom Anderson Crowdster - my rawkin' guitar. Curly maple top, mahogany body, LR Baggs pickup. This is THE most reliable acoustic if you ever need to amplify one. I could crank the crazies outta this sucker, and no feedback at all. This was my main workhorse when it came to leading worship for the past 2 years. short-scaled neck that is, in my experience, THE best neck ever. EVER.
Simon & Patrick Pro Folk Rosewood - sweet little thing. Solid spruce top, sandwiched rosewood sides, and a solid rosewood back. Not pictured here, but I installed a custom pickup: Fishman Prefix Pro preamp coupled to a McIntyre Feather. Lovely tone that was well-balanced and was very comfortable.
June 2006
Gibson Chet Atkins SST - vintage from 1991. Thin-bodied like the Crowdster, it had a Fishman pickup w/some crappy controls. played it at Hoa & Synthia's wedding, experienced a near failure with it. Sold immediately.
S&P Pro Folk Rosewood - still here. It went to Mexico for a missions trip and picked up alot of dust inside. Never thought I would have to vacuum my guitar, but off went the strings and in went the tube! Had maybe 2 pickup failures, but easily remedied by Larry at Thin Man Strings in Alameda. Still alive and kicking.
Tom Anderson Crowdster - took it to the WCCCC conference in Dec 06, leading worship with JNX's Anthony Chan. Man, that was some serious work, but it was crazy fun!
Fast forward, 2007:
What the heck - there's no picture. Oh right - everyone got sold this year.
- The Crowdster got sold in Feb 2007. sad day it was. Look up the entry for it. - I sold the S&P to my guitar student. It was time he needed to upgrade beyond a beater guitar and the saddest-looking electric guitar. Cut him a deal, and he jumped on it. Lucky kid.
So what then? Well, I get this one:
This is a 1973 Gurian S3R. Solid spruce top, Solid rosewood back/sides. Nobody knows what a Gurian is, but that's no big surprise - they closed up shop back in 1983. Unknown pickup, but it sounds great. This baby's got plenty of tone, a well-balanced sound, bright highs and good lows. It's also got the longest scale length I've ever played - 26" - but I'm actually perfectly okay with it. It's now my main toy.
Here's a recent shot of me leading worship this past Saturday for our sponsor's appreciation night:
Look at my left hand - I've finally gone back to standard tuning!!! =)
So yes, I love my new/old guitar. And it's well-worth the money spent on it.
There's another important update I'd like to post, so stay "tuned"..... ahha bad joke =P Seriously though, another update will come soon.
